How To Pick The Best Upright Vacuum For Wood Flooring

Best Upright Vacuum For Wood Floor

In the battle between vacuum type and your floor’s best chance for a deep cleaning, there are a lot of possibilities.

Upright vacuums are the traditional go to for fast and relatively simple hardwood cleaning. But amongst all the different models and attachments, it’s easy to get confused.

I know for a fact that I can’t even go to that side of my local Walmart without feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of possibilities.

In hopes of making your life a little easier, here are my recommendations on the best upright vacuum, as far as wood floors go:

    1. Hoover Linx Cordless – This is the first cordless model I saw that I actually liked. This is one of the best cleaners I’ve seen for hardwood floors. It gives the suction power of an upright, combined with the mobility of a canister vacuum. It’s powered by a 18 bolt Lithium battery and comes with a charger so that it is ready when you are. It comes with a lifelong warranty on both the unit and the charger. With an easy clean out and suction that will pull up dust, pet hair, and grit from between your floorboards, it is easily one of the best for hardwood. If you are willing to pay the price for it.

    2. Shark NV356E – This upright is good for people who often have heavy duty cleaning tasks, or have allergies. It has a sealed dirt compartment to keep all the dust in when you empty it, but the real hardwood cleaning is in the head. It comes with a motorized brush roll with microfiber pads that will pull every bit of dust and dirt from your floor, which eliminates the need for a dust mop after a vacuuming session. With its many extra attachments, all the dust and dirt is kept off your floors and out of your nose.

    3. Dyson DC40 – This vacuum is one of the most mobile and corner reaching in the line up. With Dyson ball technology, it easily maneuvers around obstacles. Thanks to cyclone technology, it also has a powerful suction head as well, and can get the tiny pieces of dirt that catch between your floorboards. With its extendable hose attachments, this cleaner is definitely one of my favorites. Beware the price though! Dyson’s can be expensive, though they have the warranty to keep it running for a while.

    4. Shark Navigator Upright Bagless Cleaner, NV22L – This vacuum is one of the cheapest listed, but its no slacker either. It is good for both carpet and hardwood, with multiple attachments and crevice devices to give your floor a thorough cleaning. Since it is bag-less, there is less of a chance of a mess, and it also makes it good for allergy prone family members. Not to mention, it comes with a 5 year limited warranty.

There are many other great vacuums for wood flooring that didn’t make the list. Just remember one thing: hardwood  floors require vacuums that don’t have a beater bar, but have a powerful suction strength! Personally, when it comes to wood flooring, I would recommend just sticking with canister vacuums.
